A private ultrasound well woman scan is a non-invasive medical procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the internal organs and tissues of the female reproductive system. This type of scan is typically used to detect any abnormalities or potential health issues in the uterus, ovaries, and other reproductive organs.

This scan is available for all the women above 16 years of age for any gynaecological issue.

This scan will assess the size, shape, condition of the uterus, ovaries, pelvic area, measures endometrial thickness/ lining of the womb, detects the presence of/position of an intra uterine contraceptive device (IUCD or Coil). Also, for the detection/ exclusion of fibroids, ovarian cysts, polycystic ovaries, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), endometrial polyps.

How is the Well Women scan performed?

This scan is best performed transvaginal for optimal results. Before scan, you may be asked to empty your bladder for a transvaginal exam. If you do not wish to have a transvaginal scan, we may be able to complete the scan transabdominally for that your bladder should be full at the time of appointment (drink at least 1 litre of water 1 hour before your appointment time), so that you can have transabdominal scan; please note that the results for transabdominal scan may not be as accurate as transvaginal scan.

What are the preparations for this scan?

Not much preparation is required if you wish to do it transvaginal. You will need to remove bottom half of clothing so ideally wear a skirt or bottoms that are easy to remove; however, if you do not wish to have a transvaginal scan, then please make sure that your bladder is full at the time of appointment (drink at least 1 litre of water 1 hour before your appointment time), so that you can have transabdominal scan; please note that the results for transabdominal scan may not be as accurate as transvaginal scan.
